Telecom subscribers to pay 5% tax on call, text, data

Telecom subscribers to pay 5% tax on call, text, dataThe Federal Government has disclosed that telecommunications subscribers would pay a 5 percent tax on call, SMS, and data services.

This is coming as the Association of Licensed Telecoms Operators of Nigeria (ALTON), Association of Telecommunications Companies of Nigeria (ATCON), and National Association of Telecoms Subscribers(NATCOMS), described the move as strange, insensitive, and irresponsible.

DAILY POST learnt this during a Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) Stakeholders Forum on the Implementation of Excise Duty on all Telecommunications Services’ held on Thursday in Abuja.

Speaking at the event, the Minister of Finance, Budget, and Planning, Mrs Zainab Ahmed urged stakeholders to support the implementation of the 5 percent exercise duty on telecommunications services.

Zainab represented by the Assistant Director, Tax and Policy, Mr Musa Umar appreciated NCC for providing the platform to increase Nigeria’s revenue generation.

She highlighted that countries in Africa like Malawi, Uganda, Tanzania, and others have all keyed into this revenue generation pattern.

She emphasised that this is needed to change Nigeria’s economic situation for good.

“The issue of revenue is not something that needs to be shied away from, our revenue can no longer take care of our needs as a country.

“Also Nigeria is no longer making enough money in Oil revenue hence the attention is shifting to Non-revenue”.

She explained that the government is committed towards implementing the regulation in a seamless manner that will not affect Nigerians.

Earlier, in his remark, the Executive Vice Chairman/CEO NCC, Prof Umar Danbatta said the forum is necessitated for stakeholders to get better clarifications on the 5% exercise duty on telecom services implementation.

“As the telecoms industry regulator, the Nigerian Communications Commission has engaged with the Federal Ministry of Finance, the Nigerian Customs Service, and consultants from the World Bank to get needed clarifications.

“These engagements enabled us to better understand the objectives and proposed implementation mechanisms of the Excise Duty.

“Nonetheless, we consider it imperative that these implementing agencies should also meet directly with telecoms industry stakeholders to address areas of concern”, he stated.

On his part, Comptroller General of the Nigerian Customs Service, Hameed Ali urged stakeholders to be patriotic toward implementing the policy.

Hameed represented by the Assistant Comptroller General NCS, Mrs A.S Oshishi revealed that telecommunications operators are expected to be dully registered with the service for seamless actualization of the process.

“Either to pass the cost to consumer or capture it in an appropriation. The payment is to be made in arrears, on the 21st of every month”, he stated.

Reacting to the development, the Chairman, ALTON, Engr Gbenga Adebayo insisted that the new tax burden would be passed to subscribers.

“It is a strange move, it appears a bit unusual. exercise duty is supposed to be apportioned to goods and products, but we are surprised this is on Services.

“We will continue to support the government but ALTON, won’t be able to subsidy this on behalf of subscribers in addition to the 7.5% VAT making it 12.5% payable by subscribers to the federal government.

“We currently pay a lot of taxes, running into 39 of them, so we can add more to our existing burden. We won’t be able to absolve this on behalf of subscribers.

“The 5% Excise Duty will be paid by the subscribers. It will collected by the operators on all voice and data services including OTT and remitted to the Nigerians Customs”, he stated.

On his part, the President of ATCON, Engr Ken Nnamani said, “the proposed exercise duty do not comply with principle of taxation, fairness, certainty, convenience and efficiency”.

Nnamani represented by ATCON Executive Secretary, Mr Ajibola Olude said FG has continued to turn a blind eye to the issue of foreign exchange, others challenges facing telecom operators in Nigeria.

He added that the telecom industry is bleeding yet the federal government want to exacerbate the plight of operators with additional taxation.

He appealed that the implementation of the exercise duty should be stepped down because many youths in Nigeria will lose their jobs.

He advised that the government should channel its efforts to developing other sectors.

Similarly, President National Association of Telecoms Subscribers (NATCOMS), Chief Deolu Ogunbajo said the government’s action is insensitivity and ill-timed.

“It is unfortunate that 5 percent exercise duty is coming again together with other 38 taxes.

He said, other countries in Africa paying 5% tax on telecommunications services do not have 39 others taxes.

In his words, “this is insensitivity, and irresponsible. Government should not kill the telecom industry”.

it gathered that the affected telecommunications services include all services that required license from NCC. It is talk time, Short message services(SMS), call-back services, call facilitation through VoIP, and an international call gateway.

Recall that on 31 December 2020, President Muhammadu Buhari signed into law the Finance Bill 2020 (now Finance Act 2020) which introduced amendments to 14 tax and fiscal legislations in Nigeria.

How To Know Whether Your Instagram Message Has Been Read?

How To Use Instagram Direct Messaging

If you have never used Instagram DMs, here’s a section on how they work. If you already know, feel free to skip to the next section.

DMs are very useful and straightforward (unlike some Instagram features that require tutorials). Instagram DMs don’t offer anything other chat apps don’t have, but the service is built into the app and allows you and your friends to have a dialogue focused on picture postings without switching between apps.

How to Send a Direct Message to Friends and Followed Profiles using Mobile on Instagram

  1. Open the “Instagram app,” then log in if needed.
  2. Select the “paper airplane” icon (messages) in the top right of the app. This action opens Instagram Direct. If you have any DMs waiting for you, there will be a number on the tip of the icon.
  3. Tap on the “profile” icon that you want to send a message to, or tap the “edit” icon (pencil and paper) icon in the upper right-hand corner to write in the username of someone not in your “Friends” list.
  4. To add an image from your device’s gallery, tap the “image” icon (square with mountains and the sun) on the right before you type the message, or the option disappears.
  5. To add an instant photo, tap the “camera” icon to the left before typing a message, or the option disappears.
  6. To add an animated sticker or GIF, tap the “sticker” icon (peeled square with a smiley face) on the right before you type your message or the same icon on the left after typing your message.
  7. Write your message in the text box, then press “Send.”

Instagram DMs work more or less like messaging in any regular chat app; the message is sent internally within the app’s platform (not sent externally as with an SMS message). The recipient will receive a notification that you’ve sent a message assuming they have notifications turned on.

How to Send a Direct Message to Any Profile on Instagram using Android/iOS/iPhone

Another method of accessing the DM system is by viewing someone’s profile. This action is beneficial when you stumble across a person/organization/business with content you like or recognize and want to reach out to them.

  1. Tap on the user’s “profile icon” to open their profile page.
  2. Select “Message” from the buttons in the middle of the screen.
  3. To start, add your gallery image first (if applicable) by tapping the “image” icon (square with mountains and the sun) on the right side. You cannot add a gallery image after typing in the comment box unless you backspace.
  4. To add a new photo, tap the “camera” icon on the left before typing any text. This option disappears when text is present, so backspace to delete any text and get the icon back.
  5. To add an animated sticker or GIF, tap the “sticker” icon (peeled square with a smiley face) on the right before you type your message or the same icon on the left after typing your message.
  6. If not done already, write the message as usual and press “Send.”

Unlike some platforms, where messages from people who aren’t connected are considered somewhat suspect, Instagram DMs always get sent to the recipient’s mailbox. Instagram does this to increase the level of engagement between its users.

How to Tell if Someone Has Read Your Direct Message

Instagram provides immediate feedback to tell you that a message has been read (or at least seen) by its recipient. If the message is private (one-on-one), you’ll get the status using the following steps.

  1. On the Instagram “Home” page, tap the “paper airplane icon” (messages) in the top-right section.
  2. Open your last sent message by tapping on the “corresponding profile” in the list.
  3. Scroll (if applicable) to the bottom. The status appears below your last message.

Depending on the type of message (group or private) and the relationship between you and the recipient (unfollowed, followed, following, or not following), your read receipts may be different, including not getting a “Seen” confirmation or seeing their Instagram handle or username next to the “Seen” status.

Instagram Message Seen Notifications FAQs

Can I turn off read receipts on Instagram?

Unfortunately, no. The only option you have to read messages without alerting the sender is to put your phone in Airplane Mode, read it, close Instagram, and turn Airplane Mode off again.

Can someone see if I read their message multiple times?

No, there is only one read receipt, which appears when you first read the message.

Why do I see a paper airplane flash when I send a message?

The paper airplane icon next to your message merely means your message is sending.

Can someone see if I deleted a message?

If you hold down on a message you’ve sent on Instagram, you’ll get the option to ‘Unsend’ it when done in a timely manner. Although the recipient may have already viewed and read the content, they won’t be able to see it any longer.

Can I stop someone from messaging me without blocking their account?

While you can’t block someone from sending you a DM without completely blocking their profile, you can mute their conversation. This action is handy when someone is spamming you, or you simply don’t want to read their messages. Open the person’s DM and tap on the person’s username in the upper left-hand corner of Instagram. From here, toggle the option to Mute Messages. The other user will still be able to send you messages, but you won’t get a notification from them.

How To Know If Someone Else Is Using Your Facebook Account

Signs Your Facebook Account is Compromised

Before we dive into confirming that someone has used your account, let’s first review some account behaviors that indicate someone is in your Facebook account.

If you experience some of these issues, someone likely has access to your account:

  • Changes were made to your contact email or password.
  • Your birthday, name, or other profile details have changed.
  • You are getting friend requests or accepting friend requests from people you do not know.
  • Facebook Messenger shows communications that you did not send. Or, you’re receiving a lot of messages from people you do not know.
  • Pictures, posts, or uploads appear that you did not initiate.

These account behaviors indicate that someone else is using your Facebook account. Of course, if you suspect that someone else is using your account, there are ways to confirm your suspicions.

How to See Log in Locations on Facebook

Before wracking your brain and thinking about what your new password should be and how much time you have to react, there’s another step to consider.

You can tell if someone else has used your Facebook account by checking the list of devices and locations where your account is being used. Facebook enabled this feature several years back to help monitor your logins and flag suspicious sessions.

Remember that Facebook won’t give you the precise location of each log-in or the identity of the interloper. Some location details might be way off; it all depends on where you are in the world and the server’s location. Regardless, you’ll still have the date and time stamps, as well as which device got used to gain access.

Facebook has a lot of settings. Often, it’s kind of difficult to navigate through all of them. How, for instance, are you supposed to find the Activity history on Facebook? Here’s how to do it.

Get Facebook History from iPhone or Android

Most people use Facebook on their phones, so here is how to check your login history using the Facebook app:

  1. Open the Facebook app and tap the “Hamburger menu icon” in the top right corner. Android users will find this menu in the upper right-hand corner of their screens and iOS users will find it in the lower right-hand corner.
  2. Scroll down under “Settings & Privacy,” then select “Settings.”
  3. Under “Security,” select “Security and Login.” You will find yourself on the page with a section called “Where you’re logged in.” Facebook will show you the “Active now” status in blue letters. It should be the device you are currently using.
  4. If you want to see more, tap on the blue “See all” option to the right. You’ll see the last active sessions, including the approximate location, type/model of the device, and the most recent log-in time.
  5. If you see a device or location that you do not recognize, tap on the three vertical dots. Then, select “Log Out.”

You can also tap the “Secure Account” option on this page. This button will walk you through changing your password and other Facebook security features.

Get Facebook History from a PC or Mac

If you find navigating through the Facebook web portal more convenient than the app, you can check the log-in history using that method.

The overall concept is the same. Given that the website and the app have some significant differences regarding the user interface (UI,) it is best to list all of the steps required for the website. Here is what you need to do:

  1. Log into your Facebook account, then click on the little “downward triangle” in the top right corner of the screen.
  2. From the drop-down menu, select “Settings and Privacy,” then choose “Settings.”
  3. From the panel on the left, select “Security and Login.”
  4. You can also see the “Where You’re Logged In” option. The current active session is listed, and the green “Active now” status displays. If you want to see all sessions, click on the blue “See More” option, and the menu will expand.

That is all there is to viewing Facebook history from a PC or Mac.

How to Log Out of Devices in Facebook

Locating the suspicious device or activity might be easy enough, but what are you supposed to do once you learn that information?

You can check your last activity on Facebook using your phone, tablet, or computer with a few straightforward steps. The best course of action is to log out of the devices you do not recognize or log out from every device to be extra safe.

That is entirely up to you. Fortunately, unlike some social media platforms and websites, Facebook will give you both choices. Here is how you do it.

Log Out of a Certain Device in Facebook using iOS or Android

If you’d like to keep your current devices connected to Facebook, you can always log out of the unknown device with ease.

  1. Launch Facebook on iOS or Android, then click the Hamburger Menu icon” in the top-right section.
  2. Select “Settings.”
  3. Under the “Security” menu, tap on “Security and Login.”
  4. Select “See all” to open the entire list of devices.
  5. Tap the “ellipsis icon” (three vertical dots) to open the selected device’s activity details.

Select “Log Out” for the chosen device.

Performing these steps will instantly log the user out of your account. If it was someone accessing your account and you changed your login credentials, they won’t be able to log back into your account. If the device shows up again later, it might be one of your devices, even if it displays as an unknown device. However, it is still possible that a hacker could crack your new login password too.

Log Out of All Devices at Once in Facebook from iPhone or Android

If the only device you use to get online is your smartphone, or you prefer it, logging out from all devices on Facebook is the best route to go.

  1. Open the Facebook app and navigate to “Menu -> Settings -> Security and Login -> See all.”

Scroll to the bottom and then select “LOG OUT OF ALL SESSIONS.”

Facebook automatically signs you out from all sessions on the list, except your current session.

Log Out of All Devices at Once in Facebook from a PC or Mac

You can log out of all sessions at once or individually by accessing the Facebook web portal. If you are worried about certain strange activities on your profile, you need to do the following on your Mac or PC:

  1. Navigate to the “Where You’re Logged In” option. Click on the blue “See More” option to expand the list of all past and current sessions.
  2. If you want to log out every device in one go, click on the “Log Out Of All Sessions” option in the bottom right corner.
  3. Facebook will ask you to confirm your choice by clicking on “Log Out” again.

Log Out of Certain Device in Facebook using PC or Mac

If you feel that there is no need to log out from everywhere, there is a solution for that too. Here is how to log out of specific devices in Facebook using Windows or macOS:

  1. Select the device or session you are not sure about and click on the “ellipsis” icon (three vertical dots) on the side. A tiny pop-up window will appear that says, “Not You?” and “Log Out.”
  2. The “Not You?” option gives you a chance to review the session and perhaps remember that it was you after all. Alternatively, you can get a little more information about the activity.
  3. The “Log Out” option will immediately log out the device in question.

You can repeat this process as many times as you need. Facebook won’t allow a sign-out from your current session on the web portal, just like Android and iOS.

Frequently Asked Questions

Protecting your Facebook account is of utmost importance. If you still have questions, keep reading.

Can I find out who logged into my Facebook account?

Unfortunately, these methods will only show you the device type, location, and IP address (if you hover over the login). Unless it is someone you know, you are not likely to find out exactly who is logging into your account.

What if someone took over my Facebook account?

If someone unlawfully gained access to your Facebook account and you can no longer log in, the first thing to do is contact Facebook support. If you still have access to the email on the account, do a password reset. Fortunately, we’ve already covered how to get your Facebook account back; this article should help if you can’t log into your account.

What is Facebook’s Trusted Contacts feature?

The Trusted Contacts feature allows your friends to help you get back into your account if you get locked out. Facebook will send your friend a verification code for you to use and regain access.

Can someone log back into my account after I log them out?

Yes. If the interloper has your username and password information, they can easily log back in. It’s for this reason, you should also change your password and enable Facebook’s Two-Factor Authentication feature.

Do keep in mind that 2FA will not keep someone out of your account if they’ve saved the browser or device they used to sign in. You’ll need to change your password and verify that all of your account information is up-to-date and accurate before your account is secure. We have an article here that will help you set up Two-Factor Authentication.

Why would someone want to use my Facebook account?

Facebook accounts are free and easy to set up. So, why would someone take a particular interest in yours? There are many reasons why someone might want to pretend to be you online, but the more plausible explanation is that someone is trying to scam your friends.

Most users have received suspicious messages from their friends on Facebook. Scammers prey on users’ trust to get people to click on external links and reveal sensitive information. If someone is using (or spoofing) your account, it’s best to make a Facebook post and let everyone know your account was compromised.

What do I do if I think I’ve been phished?

Phishing is a type of scam where the hacker asks for your private information or sends you a link that exposes your private data. You’ve probably received a weird attachment on Facebook Messenger from one of your friends. Unsuspecting users often click these links without realizing their friends’ account is hacked.

HowTo Enable Dark Mode On Snapchat

How to Enable Dark Mode in Snapchat on iOS
Snapchat, the highly used picture messaging and chatting app, released a dark mode option for iOS/iPhone in October 2019, just a few weeks after Apple added a dark mode setting to iOS. Here’s how to use it.

Go to your profile on Snapchat by clicking your “Bitmoji” in the top left corner.
Select the “Gear Icon” (Settings) in the top right.
Scroll Down and choose “App Appearance.”
Choose “Always Dark.”
How to Use Dark Mode in Snapchat on Android
Unfortunately, Snapchat hasn’t released Dark Mode for Android, but they seem to update everything else. It’s been about three years (October 2019) since “Dark Mode” rolled out on iOS/iPhone, so it is probably safe to say it isn’t coming to Android.

However, some users may have Dark Mode available (beta mode) based on their location in the world. Perhaps Snapchat discovered an issue they can’t seem to resolve? We’ll never know.

Android Snapchat may not support Dark Mode natively, but you can try an alternative solution.

The process involves turning on “Android developer mode” and using “Settings” to force Dark Mode onto Snapchat and all other apps. Forcing Dark Mode in the OS may alter some visibility features of any app, including Snapchat.

Note: For Android 10 and newer, forcing Dark Mode in the OS does not appear to work for Snapchat. Perhaps the Snapchat progress with Dark Mode on Android utilized Android 9 and earlier? The answer remains unknown.

Anyways, here’s how to try it to see if it works for you.

Swipe down on your screen and select the “gear icon” (Settings) in the top right.
Choose “Display.”
Enable “Dark theme.” On some phones, it may appear as “Dark mode.”
Go back to “Settings” and tap on “System.”
Tap on the “Advanced” dropdown menu, then select “Developer options.”
Scroll to the “HARDWARE ACCELERATED RENDERING” section, then tap “Override force-dark” to turn on the option.
The “Override force-dark” setting found in “Developer options” replaces the older “Force Dark Mode” in the “Display” options menu, but it is very similar. The “forcing” in “Override force-dark” makes dark mode always stay on so that apps use the system’s dark mode setting (not the app’s settings). This scenario occurs because the old “Force Dark Mode” in the “display” settings now gets labeled as “Dark theme,” which may not work for some apps, and it never turns off automatically. Yet, for some unknown reason, Snapchat does not switch to black.

There are a few alternative methods for Android that are a bit outdated but still force Dark Mode when using Snapchat. One is the “Substratum” app, and it’s pretty easy to install and use. However, your Android device needs to be rooted for Substratum to work.

There is another application available in the Play Store called “Blue Light Filter” that, while it doesn’t add Dark Mode to Snapchat, does allow you to change the harsh lights emitted from your phone’s screen. The Blue Light Filter application does not require rooting your android phone but instead acts as a film over the display. If you’re looking to reduce the harsh lights of Snapchat, Blue Light Filter is a non-invasive option.

Snapchat Dark Mode FAQs
Does Dark Mode extend battery life?
Most users who activate a darker theme will find that their device’s battery will last a bit longer after the switch. Using a lighter one requires more battery to power the bright colors, and therefore it is not the best option when trying to save battery life.

Will Android users ever get Dark Mode for Snapchat?
At this time, the answer to this question is it’s possible. Unfortunately, even in early 2022, Snapchat has released no official confirmation of the darker theme for Android users.

How to drag images from Google Keep

Google Keep has been a useful note-taking app for Android users for a while. One of the best aspects of the service is its integration with other Android apps. According to sources, users can now drag images from Google Keep and drop them right into other apps.

This feature was announced during Google I/O this year. It’s a part of Google’s new push to make Android better for tablets. The feature lets you take an image you added to Google Keep, drag it over, and drop it into another app.

This could be really useful to move images from app to app without needing to hunt down the image in the other app. It really speeds things up when you’re in a pinch. Also, if you’re using a tablet, you’re most likely going to be using your apps in split-screen mode. Why not have the ability to move the app from screen to screen?

Here is How to drag images from Google Keep
In order to use this feature, you’ll need to be in split-screen mode on your device. Also, you’ll need to make sure that the other app can take pictures. One good example is a new email in Gmail.

In Google Keep, tap and hold on the image that you want to move and simply drag it across the border into the other app. There should be some sort of indication in the other app that it’s accepting the image. For example, Gmail will show you a square telling you to drag and drop an image.

Even though this was born from Google’s ambition to make Android better on tablets, you can use this on phones. It will be a bit more cramped, of course. However, you can still drag and drop images from Google Keep using your phone.

This new feature should be rolling out, so you should be able to see it soon. If you want to check for the update, find Google Keep on the Play Store and see if you have the green Update button. If not, then you’ll want to wait a few days.

How to Share People’s Story On Instagram

How to Share an Instagram Story

There are various ways to share someone’s Instagram Story. However, there are also rules when doing so. Let’s get started!

How to Share an Instagram Story to Your Story

It is straightforward to share someone else’s Story on Instagram.

The ability to add someone’s Story to your own depends heavily on whether or not the creator tagged you. If the user didn’t tag you, there is no option to add the Story to yours.

There are certainly more options below, but for now, the topic is how to share someone else’s Instagram Story, assuming you got tagged in it.

Open Instagram and tap on the “paper airplane” (direct messages icon) in the upper right-hand corner.

Open the “tagging notification” you received when tagged in the Story.

Tap on “Add to Your Story” and select “Send” to publish the Story as usual.

How to Send a Story to Someone Else

You could still send an Instagram Story to another user if you weren’t tagged. While this doesn’t post the Story for everyone else to see, this method is helpful if you want to show it to a few friends.

The original poster must set their account to “Public,” or you won’t see the option to send it to another person.

To send an existing Story to another user on Instagram, do this:

Tap on the “Story” at the top of your screen.

Tap on the “paper airplane” icon to the right of the text box.

Tap “Send” next to each user you want to get the Story.

.That’s all there is to it. If the paper airplane icon does not appear next to the text box, the other user likely has their account set to private, or they haven’t set the permissions to allow sharing.

Share Instagram Stories Externally using the ‘Share to’ Option
Another nifty function of Instagram is sharing a Story link using an external application. For example, if you want to show your friend a cute or funny Instagram Story, you can share the link via Twitter, WhatsApp, Telegram, Meta Messenger, or even the default “Messages” app. Here’s how to do it.

Tap on the “Instagram Story,” then tap on the “vertical ellipsis” (three vertical dots) in the upper right-hand corner.
Select “Share To…”

Choose the “application” you’d like to use.
When your friend taps on the link, Instagram opens it and takes them directly to the Story.

How to Copy and Share Instagram Stories
Copying other people’s Instagram Stories and sharing them with others is a little different than sharing it on the app or in a different one, such as Facebook Messenger, Twitter Direct Messages, your phone’s default messages app, etc. This process lets you copy the link and paste it anywhere you want, even in Notepad on Windows, although that is probably not what you would do. You can paste the link in text/SMS/MMS messages, social app messages, Facebook posts, and much more. Here’s how to do it.

Select the “Instagram Story” you want to copy, then tap the “vertical ellipsis” (three vertical dots) in the upper right-hand corner.
Choose “Copy Link.”
Launch the app you want to send the link in, such as Gmail, Meta (Facebook), Messenger, Twitter, Twitter Direct Message, Excel, Word, Snapchat, or anything else you want.

Setting Your Stories as Public to Make Them Shareable
Instagram Stories must get set to “Public” to reshare them—the default setting unless you manually change them to “Private.” Ideally, you should keep as much of your account public as practical and only go private if you’re having issues with someone. Otherwise, it defeats the object of being on social media.

A Public Instagram profile is available for anyone to see, and it will appear in searches and suggested lists. A Private account is viewable only by friends that you follow. If you don’t follow the other person, they cannot view your Private profile. It is not enough for them to follow you.

To set your account to public or private, do this:

Tap your “profile” icon on Instagram to access the Menu.
Select “Settings” then “Privacy.”
Choose “Account Privacy.”
Turn “Private Account” on or off, depending on your needs.

Flutterwave bank accounts freezed

After a rough past few months, Flutterwave returns in the news for less than glowing reasons. Earlier this week, a court in Kenya froze Flutterwave bank accounts over allegations that they were used as conduits for money laundering while disguising as merchant services. The court reportedly seized 7 Billion Kenyan shillings ($59 million) from 56 bank accounts belonging to fintechs, some connected to Flutterwave.

With Flutterwave Payment Technology Limited at the centre, other parties alleged to have received monies from Flutterwave through their directors/CEOs were also mentioned – Boxtrip Travel and Tours Limited, Bagtrip Travel Limited, Elivalat Fintech Limited, Adguru Technology Limited, Hupesi Solutions, Cruz Ride Auto Limited and a Simon Ngige.

According to a Kenyan publication, The Star, the order to freeze the accounts came after the Asset Recovery Agency (ARA) told the court that Flutterwave’s account received billions of shillings and the same was deposited in the above bank accounts in an attempt to conceal the nature, source or movement of the funds.

“Investigations established that the bank accounts operations had suspicious activities where funds could be received from specific foreign entities which raised suspicion. The funds were then transferred to related accounts as opposed to settlement to merchants,” the agency adds. Isaac Nakitare, an investigator with the ARA alleges that “if indeed the Flutterwave was providing merchant services, there was no evidence of retail transactions from customers paying for goods and services. Further, there is no evidence of settlements to the alleged merchants.”

How Connect YouTube TV App On SmartTV To YouTube App on Your Phone Without Casting

YouTube has announced the introduction of a new feature that will give TV viewers a direct way to access the full power of YouTube at their fingertips while watching on their Smart TVs, making the TV experience even better and more interactive.

Before now, if you want to stream videos from the youtube app on your phone to the bigger screen of your smart tv, you would have to cast from the youtube app which also involves the use of chromecast device. More so, remote controls can be difficult to use and navigate with, most TVs don’t have web browsers built in, and you generally have less space to work with since you’re always watching video in a full screen experience.

Going forward, the new feature lets you effortlessly connect your TV’s YouTube app to your iPhone or Android phone’s YouTube app without casting. In addition, it incorporates the features you love about YouTube; from liking or commenting to engage with a video, to supporting your favorite creators by subscribing, joining channel memberships, or even sending a Super Sticker.

How It Works!
To try the new way of engaging with YouTube on TV, your phone and TV must be signed in to the same YouTube account. Open the YouTube app on TV, then open the YouTube app on your phone, and click “Connect” on the prompt that automatically pops up.

Now your phone will be synchronized to the TV, so you can directly interact with the video you are watching from the convenience of your phone. That means it’s easier than ever to read video descriptions, leave comments, share the video with a friend, or support your favorite creators by sending a Super Chat or becoming a member, all while you watch on the big screen.

YouTube says the new feature will work on all smart and connected TVs that have the latest YouTube app. It will also require that users are signed into YouTube on both the TV app and in the mobile version, and both are connected to the internet.

The feature will roll out across all platforms with the latest YouTube app over the next few weeks, YouTube says.

The Apple Watch Series 8 will be able to detect if you have a fever

This feature puts the health capabilities of the internet of things at an interesting point. Once a change in body temperature is picked by the Watch’s sensors, it will alert its owner. According to Gurman, this feature has been floating within the Apple ecosystem for a while. Now we know that it could launch with the new smartwatch from the company.

On the flipside however are concerns about how well temperature detection from a watch will perform. This owes to the history of certain Apple Health detection features not performing optimally. Such features as heart rate monitoring which has a 34% accuracy need some improvement before people can fully rely on them.

I feel compelled to advice that users should not expect a smartwatch to perform on the same level as hospital equipment. Such health features simply serve as a good health companion. That said, Apple looks like it will give its best with this new temperature feature to debut soon. We just have to wait for its launch before we can get answers on the integrity of this sensor.

MTN rewards Nigerians

Africa’s leading technology company, has teamed up with ETAP, a mobility technology company that creates solutions and incentives to improve the automotive experience across Africa, to reward Nigerian drivers for maintaining good driving behaviour.

Leveraging ETAP’s game-changing app which uses advanced telematics to monitor driving behaviour such as speed, acceleration, braking, cornering and focus, MTN customers across Nigeria will be able to earn Safe Driving Points that can be converted into vouchers for fuel, shopping vouchers for the most in-demand retail outlets, cinema and concert tickets, as well as vouchers for other exciting experiences. ETAP will also sponsor data for MTN customers to access the app so that it would not consume data from their existing allowance and it would continue to work if they run out of data.

MTN is Nigeria’s largest mobile network operator, connecting over 68 million people across the country with each other and to the world. It is committed to using its vast coverage to enable improved experiences across the country. As part of this partnership with ETAP, MTN customers will also get a free 35 point car inspection at AutoFast locations in Total filling stations, making it easier to keep their vehicles in the best condition. ETAP also has a leaderboard where drivers are gamified to maintain good driving behaviour. Drivers can monitor the leaderboard in real time to get actionable insights on their driving behaviour, access tips to improve their driving behaviour and get rewarded for driving better. In addition, drivers can also challenge each other on who the better driver is based on their leaderboard ranking.

ETAP’s business model is based on the concept of Shared Value Insurance, which focuses on incentivising people with rewards to reduce their insurance risk by adopting good behaviour. Along with the rewards, drivers can buy insurance in 90 seconds and complete claims in three minutes or less, with flexible coverage options including daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly and annual plans depending on their needs. ETAP also uses machine learning to build intelligent risk profiles that determine appropriate premiums for each driver, allowing them to achieve lower premiums by driving safely.

Google Switch to Android application is now available in the App Store

Google Switch to Android is a new application available on the App Store for iPhone users moving to Android. For some time, switching to an Android device from an iPhone has been difficult. Moving existing data, applications, and media has been difficult except on Google Pixel devices.

Now, Google is giving more Android smartphones the freedom to absorb iPhone users who want the Android experience. This feature will be available for devices that launch with Android 12 or that’ll upgrade to Android 12 and above. Truthfully, people are moving between the two mobile operating systems (from iPhone to Android, and vice versa).

To use the Google Switch to Android application, download on the App Store. Once the installation is complete, it displays a QR code to prompt the switch and file transfer process. This transfer can be wireless over a Wi-Fi connection or with a USB Type-C to Lightning cable. From personal experience, I’d recommend using a USB Type-C to Lightning cable. This will enable all files to move over faster and ultimately in a more secure way.

This switch will move everything from your iPhone to your new Android device. It also ensures the transfer of existing WhatsApp messages and files, even if they don’t have a cloud backup. For your iMessage conversations, they will move over to Google RCS Messages.
