Roy Keane, has warned Erik ten Hag, telling the Dutchman that legendary striker, Cristiano Ronaldo did not return to Old Trafford to sit on the bench during a derby game.

Ronaldo sat on the bench on Sunday, watching as his team were beaten without mercy by city rivals, Manchester City, with Erling Haaland and Phil Foden getting hat-tricks

Ten Hag opted for Jadon Sancho, Marcus Rashford and Antony in the attack and later introduced Anthony Martial while the veteran Portuguese goal-machine remained on the bench.

And Keane, who was visibly angry with the manager’s decision during an argument with former Manchester City star, Micah Richards, wondered why a player who scored almost 25 goals last season should be left on the bench.

Well that’s their fault. That’s their fault, not Ronaldo’s. They got hammered anyway!

“I’ve never had a problem playing with a striker who’s going to score 20/25 goals ever.

“We had a torturous afternoon looking at Aston Villa because they couldn’t put the ball in the back of the net but we’re criticizing Ronaldo because the ONLY thing he does is score goals!

“I don’t care if a player’s not pressing if he’s going to get me 20/25 goals.

“Ronaldo did not come back to Manchester United to sit on the bench in a derby game.”

Next up for Manchester United is a trip to Omonia Nicosia in the Europa League on Thursday before returning to the Premier League to face Everton at the weekend.
