Leicester City boss, Brendan Rodgers, has confirmed that centre-back, Wesley Fofana will sit out another Premier League match at the weekend.
The French defender did not participate in Leicester City’s 2-1 defeat to Southampton last weekend and will miss their clash with Chelsea.
It was the manager’s decision to exclude the defender from Leicester City’s squad to face Chelsea this weekend and not due to injury as he was made to train with the U-23 team.
It means that Fofana will not face the club he wants to join, having been demoted to the development squad after failing to turn up to training as he tries to force his move to Stamford Bridge.
Asked if Fofana will feature against Chelsea at his pre-match press conference on Thursday, Rodgers replied: “He won’t be available for the weekend. He has trained with our Under-23 squad.”
The manager complained about the player’s behaviour, noting that other players have left without causing trouble in the process.
“No, it was totally different. I was aware over the course of the summer that there was a possibility that could happen,” comparing Fofana’s situation to Harry Maguire’s move to Manchester United in 2019.
“Harry in terms of his behaviour and his focus for the club, he was fantastic right until the last minute he was with the team and with the squad and then he moved on. So no, it is different.
Over the seasons here we’ve lost obviously Ben Chilwell as well, but this [Fofana situation] unfortunately is just a little bit different. But our focus is with the team and the players that are available.”
